- Google Photos. I would use this if you are already in Google’s ecosystem or if cloud backup matters more to you. Search is better, photo grouping is smarter, and older pictures are easier to dig up than in the stock Photos app.
For my own use, Clever Cleaner lands in the middle in a good way. It clears out the buildup, frees more storage than I expected the first time I used it, and leaves the photo library in a state where organizing it no longer feels annoying.

If your library is years old and full of junk, Apple Photos alone is not enough. Thats been true for me too.
Apple Photos is enough until it suddenly… isn’t. That’s kind of the trap.
I mostly disagree with the idea that you need to replace it. @mikeappsreviewer and @viaggiatoresolare are right that a sidecar app makes more sense, but I’d go one step further: the real issue usually is not “organizing,” it’s decision fatigue. I would skip moving everything to Google Photos unless you really want cloud-first search. People always praise the search, but long-term it can feel like renting access to your own mess.

- cloud-first search from anywhere: Google Photos
My honest take: people blame Apple Photos for problems caused by keeping everything. Clean first, organize second. If after cleanup Apple Photos still feels restrictive, then switch workflows. Not before.
