Can you use AirPlay with Firestick?

Trying to mirror my iPhone to my Firestick using AirPlay, but it’s not working. Does anyone know if it’s possible to do this? If yes, any tips on how to set it up would be great.

Ehh, so here’s the deal with trying to use AirPlay on your Firestick. Straight out, Firesticks don’t natively support AirPlay. Apple’s AirPlay is a proprietary thingy, and Amazon isn’t playing nice with it by default.

But hey, don’t toss that Firestick out just yet! You can still get your iPhone mirrored, but you’ll need to download a third-party app. Some users have had luck with the DoCast app. It’s a solid option for streaming or mirroring your iPhone screen to your Firestick.

Here’s a quick walkthrough to set it up:

  1. Download DoCast:
On your iPhone, head to the App Store and grab the DoCast app.

  2. Connect to the Same Network:
Make sure both your Firestick and iPhone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This is crucial—mismatched networks won’t fly.

  3. Launch:
Open the app on your iPhone.

4 Start Mirroring:
Follow the prompts to start mirroring your iPhone screen to your Firestick.

Bam, you should be good to go. It’s a bit more hassle than you’d like, I know. But that’s the trade-off when Amazon and Apple aren’t pals. Enjoy your mirrored magic!

So, you’re stuck trying to mirror your iPhone to a Firestick using AirPlay, huh? Yeah, that’s a bit of a tough nut to crack since Amazon and Apple aren’t exactly best buds when it comes to AirPlay support.

Nachtdromer nailed it with the DoCast app solution, but if you’re looking for something a bit different or just want to explore more options, there are a few other third-party apps you might give a go at.

Alternative Apps:

  1. AirScreen: This one’s a popular choice. It’s essentially a receiver for AirPlay, Google Cast, Miracast, and DLNA, which means it’s pretty versatile.
  2. TV Cast for Fire TV: Another decent option, though it’s mostly used for casting video content rather than full device mirroring.

Setup AirScreen

  1. Download AirScreen: From the Amazon App Store on your Firestick.
  2. Connect: Make sure your iPhone and Firestick are on the same Wi-Fi network (this step is non-negotiable, seriously).
  3. Open: Launch AirScreen on your Firestick.
  4. Mirror: Pull up the Control Center on your iPhone and tap on ‘Screen Mirroring’. You should see your Firestick device pop up. Click on it, and boom, you’re mirroring.

If this doesn’t cut it and you’re still keen on AirPlay content from your iPhone to a Firestick, you’re pretty much looking at a jailbreak or some dodgy workaround, which I wouldn’t recommend unless you’re really good at troubleshooting and dealing with unforeseen tech hiccups.

But if you’re not into the idea of downloading third-party apps or you’re just fed up, maybe it’s time to reconsider streaming options. An Apple TV might be less hassle if you’re glued to the iOS ecosystem. Or you could explore Amazon’s ecosystem with Alexa, which offers its own range of features.

Trust me, it’s a bit more pain than most people sign up for, but a workaround is always available if you’re up for the chase!
