Day 1 to 2
- Only use it for:
- Explaining code.
- Writing tests.
- Small refactors in one file.
Day 3 to 5
- Use it for:
- Multi file rename or refactor.
- Generating repetitive handlers or components from one example.
Compare your git diff size and review time to a week without it. If you see more completed work with no increase in bug rate, it is worth keeping. If you feel you spend more time correcting it than coding, turn it into a “helper for tests and refactors only” instead of a general coding buddy.
So, yeah, it feels hit or miss at first. Once you limit it to refactor, tests, glue code, and targeted debugging, it starts to pull its weight.

Practical way to decide if it’s worth committing
Run a 1–2 week experiment with actual numbers:
- Count features / fixes where Cursor saved >30% time vs you doing it solo.
- Count times it sent you down a wrong path, or you scrapped its work entirely.
- Pay attention to mental load: are you more drained after AI-heavy days or less?
If the net result is:
- You ship more, feel less mentally burned out, and you’re mostly editing its work instead of rewriting, Cursor is likely worth keeping.
